| The
City of Lompoc has a number of programs to prevent
pollution.
DID YOU KNOW?..
Used oil is a hazardous waste. Oil poured down household drains,
or directly onto the ground, can work its way into water
sources. Oil can pollute the groundwater with contaminants such
as lead, magnesium, copper, arsenic, cadmium and PCBs. One quart
of oil can pollute 250,000 gallons of drinking water. State law
prohibits the disposal of oil by pouring it into sewers, streams
or the ocean, or by pouring it on the ground.
THE GOOD NEWS IS...
Used Oil is recyclable! Recycling used oil saves our natural
resources. Currently 100 million gallons of used oil are
recycled annually in California.
HOW TO RECYCLE YOUR USED OIL...
To recycle your used oil, drain the oil into a clean container
with a tight-fitting cap (such as a milk jug or a free used oil
container provided by the City of Lompoc). Take the oil to a
used oil collection site. For more information about used oil
recycling, please contact the Used Oil Hotline at 1-800-CLEANUP.
