| The City
of Santa Maria has a number of programs to prevent pollution and
encourage recycling.
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection
facility is open every Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.,
to take used oil and other hazardous materials. These include
latex paint, household cleaners, batteries, and used oil filters
from residential customers. Rain cancels. Used oil collection is
also available at Certified Collection Centers within City limits.

The City of Santa Maria Utilities Department
has expanded the hours Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Facility. Beginning Wednesday, January 2, 2008, new hours
will be as follows: Every Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Every Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Recycling is available at no cost, for residents
and businesses. For residential recycling, call the Recycling
Hotline at 925-0951 ext. 806, leave your name, address, telephone
number and your trash collection day. A 90 gal. recycling
container will be delivered to your home. Businesses who wish to
recycle can call the Utilities office to arrange for a 2 Yd, 3Yd.
or 4 Yd. recycling dumpster.

Department has a Speakers Bureau comprised of a variety of local
scientific, government, and educational professionals whose
expertise covers water quality, Project Clean Water Solutions,
Source Reduction, community involvement in watershed issues, and
other topics relating to pollution control. Contact the Utilities
